India's Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon were unable to secure a spot in the final of the women's skeet shooting competition at the Paris Olympics. Chauhan, the current Asian Games bronze medalist, was in contention for a place in the top six after the third round. However, three misses in the final round proved costly, dropping her to 14th position with a total score of 118 out of 125.
Indian Shooters Miss Out on Skeet Finals
Raiza Dhillon had a disappointing start on the first day of qualification but managed to improve her performance on day two. Unfortunately, her final score of 113 out of 125 was not sufficient to qualify for the top 20. Anantjeet Singh Naruka also failed to reach the final in the men's skeet event.
India's shooting contingent has secured three medals at the Paris Olympics, all of which are bronze.
India's Historic Shooting Campaign
India's shooting contingent has made history at the Paris Olympics. Manu Bhaker secured the nation's first Olympic medal in women's 10m air pistol with a bronze finish. Subsequently, the mixed team of Sarabjot Singh and Manu Bhaker clinched India's first-ever medal in team shooting, also a bronze.
Swapnil Kusale added to India's medal tally by winning bronze in the men's 50m rifle 3P event. His achievement marked India's first-ever medal in this category. With Kusale's medal, the Indian shooting team has delivered its best-ever performance at the Olympics.
India's Shooting Legacy
Prior to the Paris Olympics, India's best performance in shooting occurred at the London 2012 Games. Vijay Kumar won silver in the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol, while Gagan Narang claimed bronze in the men's 10m air rifle. India's journey in Olympic shooting began with Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's silver medal in the men's double trap at the Athens 2004 Olympics. This was followed by Abhinav Bindra's historic gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, marking India's first-ever individual gold medal in any sport.
