The nation awaits the final verdict on whether wrestler Vinesh Phogat will be awarded a silver medal after a heartbreaking disqualification from the Paris Olympics gold medal match. Just 100 grams over the weight limit on the morning of the final cost her a shot at gold. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has extended its decision deadline and will now announce its ruling on August 13, 2024.

Earlier, the order was supposed to came on August 10 but CAS has extended the date and time in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee and the final date will be August 11.

As per Sports Tak's exclusive report, “The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6-00 p.m. on August 13, 2024, for the Sole Abritator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee to issue a decision. The reasoned order will be issued at a later date” said the report.

Vinesh's case was basically fought on these three key points:

-She did not commit any fraud.

• Her weight gain was due to the body’s natural recovery process.

• It is the athletes’ fundamental right to look after her body

• Her body weight was under the prescribed limit on day 1 of competition, and weight gain only happened because of recovery and that’s not fraud. That is her fundamental right to replenish her body with nutrients needed to allow her body to recover.

A team of four lawyers, Joelle Monlouis, Estelle Ivanova, Habbine Estelle Kim, and Charles Amson, represented Vinesh at the hearing. These lawyers, associated with the Paris Bar, are providing their services pro bono for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
