Pakistan athlete Arshad Nadeem made headlines after he won the Olympics gold medal by creating a new tournament record in men's javelin throw. Nadeem pulled off an Olympic record-breaking effort of 92.97m on Thursday night. On the other hand, India Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal for his 89.45m throw. Nadeem became the first Pakistani athlete who won an Olympic gold medal in an individual event.
On the other hand, Neeraj became only the third Indian and the first in track and field to win back-to-back individual Olympic medals. After Neeraj's silver, her mother Saroj said Pakistan's Nadeem is also our child.
"We are very happy with the silver, the one who got gold is also our child and the one who got silver is also our child....all are athletes, all work hard," Saroj told PTI Videos in Khandra, Panipat, where the family is based.
"Nadeem is also good, he plays well, there is no difference between Neeraj and Nadeem. We got gold and silver there is no difference for us," she added in the interview given on Thursday night.
Shoaib Akhtar on Neeraj Chopra's mother
After her mother's reaction, Pakistan legendary speedster Shoaib Akhtar took his ‘X’' Twitter to hail India's gold medallist's mother. He said that It's just a mother's heart that can say this.
“Gold jis ka hai, wo bhi hamara he larka hai. Yeh baat sirf ek maa hi keh sakti hai. Amazing” posted Akhtar on X.
Both Chopra nd Nadeem are good friends off the field despite being rivals on it.
