The World Championships witnessed yet another challenging day for Indian athletes, with several falling short of progressing further in their respective events on Sunday. Santhosh Kumar Tamilarnsan and Sarvesh Anil Kushare became the latest to face hurdles in their path to success.

Santhosh Kumar Tamilarnsan ran the 400m hurdles heat but couldn't make a mark, finishing seventh in heat three with a time of 50.46 seconds. Despite his efforts, he didn't qualify for the semifinals as only the top four finishers from each of the five heats, along with the next four swiftest, advanced.

High jumper Sarvesh Anil Kushare also faced a setback, finishing 11th in the qualification round Group B and 20th overall. He struggled to clear the 2.25m mark in three attempts. The final round spots were secured by athletes who cleared 2.30m or at least the top 12 performers combining Group A and B.

The tournament's opening day wasn't favorable for India either. National record holder, 3000m steeplechaser Avinash Sable, couldn't reach the final round, ending seventh in his heat race. In other events, the men's 20km race walk saw three Indians at the tail end, and Shaili Singh missed out on progressing in the women's long jump.

Ajay Kumar Saroj showcased a commendable performance by clocking his personal best of 3 minutes 38.24 seconds in the men's 1500m heats. However, even this wasn't enough to push him into the semifinals. The men's triple jump event also didn't bring any joy for India, as athletes Praveen Chithravel, Eldhose Paul, and Abdulla Aboobacker couldn't secure spots for the final round.

With no Indian athletes scheduled to compete on Monday, fans remain hopeful for better outcomes as the World Championships progress.
