Arman Tsarukyan reveals his preferred opponent for a potential title fight.

A high-stakes backup plan emerges if the lightweight shot doesn’t materialize.

Arman Tsarukyan remains firmly in the championship conversation, but the rising lightweight contender is making it clear that he won’t wait indefinitely for a title opportunity.

As uncertainty surrounds the division’s immediate future, Tsarukyan has revealed a backup plan that could still see him competing for UFC gold.

Title snub fuels motivation

Despite a strong run that included a submission victory over Dan Hooker, Tsarukyan found himself overlooked when the promotion opted to book Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett for the interim lightweight title.

That decision sparked frustration for the Armenian, who had been building momentum toward a shot at the 155-pound crown. Off-the-cage issues, including his withdrawal from a scheduled title fight in early 2025, further complicated his path back to the top.

Clear Target: Winner of Topuria vs Gaethje

Looking ahead, Arman Tsarukyan has his sights firmly set on the undisputed title picture. With Ilia Topuria expected to face Gaethje for championship gold, Tsarukyan believes his next fight should come against the winner.

“I want to fight him (Topuria) for the belt right away,” Tsarukyan said.

The statement reflects his confidence and intent to reclaim his position among the elite in the division.

Backup Plan: BMF title clash

However, Tsarukyan is also realistic about the unpredictable nature of UFC matchmaking. If a direct title shot doesn’t materialize, he is open to an alternate route—one that still offers high stakes.

“(A fight before that), well, if they offer me the BMF fight with (Charles) Oliveira, then I’ll fight. I’ll take that and then go for the real title.

“(Fighting Oliveira again) is a dangerous option, but still, I should win, 99 percent (of the time),” he continued. “If I can’t get past Oliveira, what’s the point of pushing further?”

A showdown with Charles Oliveira would carry added intrigue, given their previous meeting at UFC 300, where Tsarukyan secured a hard-fought victory.

Staying ready for opportunity

Currently keeping active through grappling competitions, Arman Tsarukyan is preparing for a return to mixed martial arts with renewed focus. His willingness to pursue multiple routes to gold underscores his determination to remain at the forefront of the lightweight division.

Whether it’s a direct title shot or a high-profile BMF clash, Tsarukyan is positioning himself for a defining moment in his career.
