The Indian men's volleyball squad maintained their formidable form, progressing to the quarterfinals with a decisive 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei at the Asian Games this Friday.
After their remarkable triumph against South Korea, India clinched a 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Chinese Taipei in a match that lasted an hour and 25 minutes, ensuring their place in the 1-6th position playoffs.
India is set to compete against either Japan or Kazakhstan this coming Sunday.
The match saw India trailing 6-10 initially, but Erin Varghese's efforts brought the team closer, narrowing the deficit to 11-13. Despite being behind for the majority of the game, India managed to level the score at 21-21. Varghese, along with Ashwal Rai, secured the final two points, granting India the lead.
The second set began with India taking a 3-0 lead. However, Chinese Taipei rallied to equalise at 17-17. In the crucial moments, India surged ahead, clinching the set 25-22.
The decider saw India off to a strong start, leading 10-4. Chinese Taipei managed to close the gap to 10-12 and later levelled at 14-14. Nonetheless, India pushed forward to 21-18 and eventually sealed the set at 25-21.
Earlier, In a riveting men's Pool C showdown at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, India's volleyball team eked out a 3-2 win against the formidable South Korea maintaining their undefeated record in the tournament so far. The closely contested match saw India clinch the game with scores of 25-27, 29-27, 25-22, 20-25, 17-15, overcoming the five-time Asian Games champions, Korea.
