PV Sindhu defeated by An Se Young in quarter-finals of China Masters

An Se Young won the match 21-14, 21-13

PV Sindhu was totally outclassed by World No.1 An Se Young in the quarter-finals of the China Masters Super 750 tournament in Shenzhen on Friday. The Indian shuttler lost the match after only 38 minutes and continued her woeful record against her opponent. Notably, Sindhu has lost on all the 8 occasions where she has come up against An Se Young and is yet to register her first victory over the Korean.

Sindhu had looked in great touch in the tournament before the match against Young. She had first deffeated Denmark’s Julie Dawall Jakobsen 21-4, 21-10 before racking up a sensational 21-15, 21-15 victory over World No.6 Pornpawee Chochuwong in the pre-quarterfinals. However, the Indian shuttler struggled badly against her Korean opponent, who looked to be in control throughout the match.

The defeat to Young means that Sindhu's wait of making a semi-final appearanace in the BWF World Tour 2025 continues. It is safe to say that the 2-time Olympic medallist isn't at her best as of now and hasn't been able to put in a good performance on multiple occasions now. This includes her defeat to unseeded Danish shuttler Line Christophersen in the Round Of 32 of the Hong Kong Open. She will definitely be hoping to improve in the upcoming tournaments.

On the other hand, Young cruised into the semi-finals of the China Masters with a thumping victory. It was an exceptional performance from the World No.1 who is looking stronger than ever at the moment. Her semi-final opponent will be Japan's Akane Yamaguchi, who defeated Indonesia's Putra Wardani in straight games in the quarter-final.

Satwik-Chirag soon in action

Meanwhile, the India duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will also be in action later in the quarter-finals of the China Masters. They will be facing-off against the Chinese duo of Ren Xiang Yu and Xie Haonan in what is expected to be a cracker of a contest. Notably, the Indian pair had defeated Taiwan's Chiu Hsiang-chieh and Wang Chi-lin in straight games to make it to last 8.
