Danish Open Swimming: Proud Indian actor and father Madhavan shares post after son bags silver

Reputed actor R Madhavan recently posted a story on social media congratulating his national level swimmer and son Vedaant Madhavan for winning a silver at the Danish Open in Copenhagen on Saturday. The swimming competition, which is being held from April 15-19, will see many Indian prospects participating, including Sajan Prakash, Vedaant Madhavan, Shakthi Balakrishna and Tanish George. 

 

The Indian contingent will participate in many events, keeping their chances of winning medals high. 

 

Veteran swimmer and two-time Olympian Sajan Prakash won the gold medal in the 200m Butterfly event, clocking a time of 1:59:27. His personal best stands at 1:56:38.

 

Meanwhile, Vedaant also began the competition on a brilliant note, winning the silver medal in the 1500m Freestyle swimming event. The 16-year-old also clocked a personal best of 15:57:86 to clinch the second spot in the competition.

 

Vedaant began his tryst in swimming when he was in school, before joining the Goregaon Sports Club in Mumbai to learn from the professionals. After training for competitions during a 30-day camp in Bangalore, he participated in the 3rd SFI All India National Club Championships (2018), the 64th National School Games, the Glenmark 36th Sub Junior and 46th Junior National Aquatic Championships (2019). 

 

In 2021, Vedaant won seven medals for Maharashtra at the Junior National Aquatic Championships in Bengaluru. 

 

The 16-year-old secured four silver and three bronze medals in the competition that was held at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, according to reports. He represented Maharashtra, winning the silver medal in the 800m freestyle swimming, 1500 freestyle swimming, 4×100 freestyle relay and 4×200 freestyle relay events. 

 

Vedaant also won bronze medals in the 100m freestyle swimming, 200m freestyle swimming and 400m freestyle swimming events, as per reports.

 

Shakthi Balakrishnan finished second in the 'B' Final and eighth overall in the women's 400m medley with a timing of 5:10:71.

The fourth Indian swimmer competing at the meet, Tanish George Mathew finished 29th in 50m freestyle heats with a timing of 24:29.

 

Following Vedaant's impressive showing at the 2022 Danish Open, his father R Madhavan was all praises for his son and Sajan, sharing the news of the Indian swimmers' achievement on major social media platforms for his fans to see. Madhavan also thanked his son's coach Pradeep, the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) and the Aqua Nation Sports Academy (ANSA).
