Mondo Duplantis secures his 15th pole vault world record with another remarkable performance.

The Swedish-American star’s calculated strategy continues to drive his record-breaking success.

Armand “Mondo” Duplantis continues to redefine pole vaulting, adding yet another chapter to his remarkable legacy. The two-time Olympic champion recently cleared 6.31 metres at the Mondo Classic, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting, marking the 15th time he has broken the pole vault world record.

The Swedish star delivered a dominant performance throughout the event. Duplantis cleared 5.65m, 5.90m, and 6.08m with ease before soaring over the historic 6.31m mark on his first attempt. Competing in front of a passionate home crowd, he reflected on the emotional moment afterward.

"If you come to Sweden to compete against me, it will be even harder to beat me," he said. "There are a lot of emotions right now. There was a little extra pressure because I want to perform in a different way."

The one-centimetre strategy that sets him apart

What makes Duplantis’ achievements even more fascinating is the method behind them. Since first breaking the world record in February 2020 with a jump of 6.17 metres at the Copernicus Cup in Poland, he has improved the record by just one centimetre each time.

This deliberate strategy allows the 25-year-old to steadily push the limits of the sport while maintaining consistency in competition. In pole vaulting, athletes have the freedom to choose the heights they attempt after each successful clearance. Mondo Duplantis has mastered this flexibility, using it to plan his world-record jumps carefully.

Financial and competitive motivation

Beyond the athletic brilliance, there is also a practical incentive behind the approach. According to reports, athletes receive $100,000 each time a world record is broken, although the reward can only be claimed once per event.

As noted by Forbes:
"An athlete such as Duplantis who recognises this understands that they can maximise their financial return by waiting to break the world record again."

Additionally, sponsors such as Puma reportedly provide bonuses for record-breaking performances, making each incremental improvement even more valuable.

A future full of possibilities

Mondo Duplantis’ dominance shows no signs of slowing down. His father, Greg Duplantis, has previously suggested that the Swedish superstar could potentially reach 6.40 metres in the future.

With 15 world records already under his belt and many years left in his career, the pole vault sensation appears poised to keep pushing the boundaries of the sport.
