Former women's bantamweight title challenger Irene Aldana suffered what can also be called the worst cut in the history of UFC during her clash against Norma Dumont at the stacked UFC Noche card which was held at The Sphere in Las Vegas early on Sunday morning. Irene was headlining the preliminary card. She might have lost the fight after a three-round war to a decision but walking with a cut like that got her more respect from the fans.
The Mexican would have been back in the running for a second chance at 135 pounds title if she had defeated Dumont. However, she had a mountain to climb after a horrific head-on collision early in the battle creating a large gash on the right side of her forehead. Jon Anik who was part of the commentatory team along with Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik was stunned at the sight and couldn't believe his eyes.
He said "So a nasty gash, slot machine-esque, on the forehead of Irene Aldana. It was a clash of heads, the cut man did what he could, but Aldana is leaking."
Dumont kept her sights fixed on the wound on Irene's head, showing no mercy for her opponent. At the conclusion of the three-round match, Aldana had a cut fit for a horror movie from Hollywood. MMA fans were absolutely shocked and in disbelief that Irene kept on going despite the horrific war wound. One of the fans even called it the "worst cut in the UFC history".
Aldana who lost by unanimous decision, is no stranger to engaging in hard and demanding bouts. She engaged in a three-round battle with Karol Rosa at UFC 296 in Sin City in December, coming out on top. But that night, with her precise boxing, she closed both of Rosa's eyes, causing far more harm than good.
