This was Neeraj Chopra's first-ever 90m throw in this career

India's javelin superstar and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has created history at the Diamond League Doha leg by breaching the coveted 90-metre mark. He clocked a monstrous throw of 90.23 metre in his third attempt. This was the first time in Neeraj Chopra's career that he breached the 90-metre mark in javelin.

Before his remarkable 90.23metre throw at the 2025 Doha Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra's personal best in the javelin was 89.94 metres. He had achieved this previous best at the Stockholm Diamond League on June 30, 2022, consistently coming close to the 90-metre mark but never quite breaching it until this historic moment in Doha.

The 26-year-old athlete first captured global attention after grabbing gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. He didn't stop there as he went on to win a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Beyond his Olympic achievements, Neeraj Chopra has also proven his mettle as a multiple medalist at the World Championships, winning gold in 2023 and silver in 2022. He is also a two-time medalist at the Asian Games, securing gold in both the 2018 and 2022 editions. Additionally, he has tasted victory in the prestigious Diamond League, winning the final in 2022.

The momentous 90.23m throw in Doha, achieved on his third attempt during the javelin final, not only represents a personal milestone for Neeraj Chopra but also establishes a new national record for India in the javelin throw event. This throw signifies a major breakthrough in his career and further cements his position as one of the elite javelin throwers in the world.

However, Neeraj's landmark achievement of 90.23 meters was not enough to win the title, as Germany's Julian Weber surpassed him with a mammoth final throw of 91.06 metres to finish first. Weber, who steadily built momentum throughout the competition, snatched victory with his final throw, denying Chopra what would have been a memorable season-opening win.
