A significant title change has occurred in WWE ahead of this week's SmackDown. Dragon Lee has defeated Andrade to claim the Speed Championship, with the match airing moments ago exclusively on X/Twitter. The Speed Championship was introduced earlier this year, with Ricochet becoming the first-ever titleholder. Ricochet eventually dropped the belt to Andrade before his departure from WWE. Andrade then held the title for more than five months, defending it against competitors like Baron Corbin, Tommaso Ciampa, Xavier Woods, and Pete Dunne.
However, Andrade’s reign came to an abrupt end before SmackDown aired last Friday. In under five minutes, Andrade lost the title to Dragon Lee. The Speed Championship is exclusive to WWE Speed, a series that airs on X/Twitter.
Women's title introduced too
After the success of the Men's Speed Championship, a similar title was introduced for the women’s division, with Candice LeRae being crowned the inaugural Women’s Speed Champion. Following their victories, both Andrade and LeRae began receiving more screen time, and it’s expected that Dragon Lee may see the same as he looks to elevate his profile within WWE. At just 29 years old, Lee is eager to seize his breakthrough moment in the company.
Dragon Lee’s Rise in WWE
Dragon Lee signed with WWE in 2022 and made his television debut shortly afterward. He was quickly promoted to the main roster after a brief stint in NXT. Despite not being involved in many high-profile storylines since joining the main roster, Lee has recently garnered more television exposure. He delivered a standout performance in a match against Chad Gable, which helped increase his visibility.
Currently a member of Rey Mysterio's LWO, Dragon Lee teamed up with the Hall of Famer in a tournament to crown the number one contenders for the World Tag Team Championship. However, the duo fell short in the finals.
Often compared to Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee has impressed fans with his in-ring abilities during his relatively short time with WWE. With his recent Speed Championship victory, many are hopeful that this will be the start of a breakout moment for the rising star.
