Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey has taken a sharp jab at her previous organization while reacting to a major announcement from Most Valuable Promotions (MVP). The former bantamweight champion made headlines after publicly criticizing the UFC’s planned White House card while celebrating new developments in her current promotion.
Rousey responded on social media following the announcement that Francis Ngannou had signed with Most Valuable Promotions. The move further strengthens the promotion’s lineup and sets up a high-profile event that will feature Ngannou alongside Rousey’s own matchup against Gina Carano.
While reacting to the news, the MMA icon compared her former promotion to her new one and expressed strong confidence in the direction of MVP.
“How’s THAT for a BMF laden double headliner? That’s what happens when you put fighters and fans ahead of shareholders. P.S. UFC’s White House card sucks.”
Rousey explains why she chose not to return to the UFC
Rousey’s remarks come amid speculation that she could have made a dramatic return to the UFC as part of the proposed White House fight card. Such a comeback would have marked her first appearance in the promotion in nearly a decade.
However, the former champion has indicated that her decision to stay away from the UFC is tied to broader concerns about the company’s current direction. Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, Ronda Rousey explained that business obligations have shifted the focus of the organization.
“Dana White’s now legally obligated to maximize shareholder revenue,” she said. “It’s not just about proving the concept of fighting and putting on the best fights possible and proving that this is a sport to be taken seriously, I think now that they’ve sold the company, it’s kind of out of Dana’s hands unfortunately.”
Growing competition in the MMA landscape
Rousey believes that aligning herself with Most Valuable Promotions ultimately benefits the sport by creating stronger competition for the UFC. The addition of Francis Ngannou to MVP has already generated significant buzz, especially with the heavyweight star expected to appear on the same event card.
With Ronda Rousey scheduled to face Gina Carano and Ngannou joining the promotion’s roster, the upcoming event could attract massive attention from combat sports fans.
