Upon initial investigation, DCP City Ghaziabad, Dhawal Jaiswal, confirmed that he was shot dead in the Kotwali Police Station area. The case has been registered and investigation is underway. The police had immediately detained a suspect based on CCTV footage. Upon interrogation, it turned out to be a fellow para-athlete who used to compete with him in blind category.

"Prima facie, the case appears to be a murder. CCTV footage showed a suspect who was detained and questioned. He confessed to the murder. The accused has been identified as Yash Khatik," Dhawal Jaiswal, DCP City, told reporters.

Reportedly, Khatik had committed the crime as Tyagi had filed a complaint related to document verification against him which led to his qualification getting cancelled. The police is looking for the weapon used to murder Tyagi. Also, they are investigating whether Khatik committed the crime alone or he had help from other individuals.

The body of Tyagi has been sent for post-mortem examination. His family has been informed and their statements will be recorded as part of the undergoing investigation.
