Neeraj recorded a throw of 84.85m on his first attempt

Neeraj Chopra has sealed his place in the final of the Javelin Throw event in the World Athletics Championships 2025. He recorded a throw of 84.85m in his very first attempt and qualified for the final in style. Neeraj, who won the event when it was last conducted in Budapest in 2023, will have the chance of becoming the third male javelin throw player in history to defend the World Championships crown.

Neeraj needed to cross the 84.5m mark in order to qualify for the final and ended up doing so rather comfortably. Recently-crowned Diamond League Champions Julian Webber was also present in the same groupĀ as the Indian javelin player and made it to the final with a monstrous 87.21m throw on his second attempt. Poland's Dawid Wegner also qualified for the final and even pushed NeerajĀ into third place with his throw of 85.67m.

Other notableĀ stars present in Neeraj's group areĀ Keshorn Walcott, Jakub Vadlejch and Sachin Yadav. Meanwhile, the likes of Arshad Nadeem, Anderson Peters, Julius Yego, Rohit Yadav, Yashvir Singh andĀ Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage are present in Group B.

Notably, if Nadeem manages to make it to the finals, then he will face-off against Neeraj for the first time since the 2024 Paris Olympics where it was the former who came out on top and clinched gold while the latter had to settle for a silver. The two had locked horns in the previous edition of the World Athletics Championships as well where it was Neeraj who came out on top with his throw of 88.17m while Nadeem finished second with a throw of 87.82m.
