One of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball to ever embrace the game; Ricardo Powell made his international debut for West Indies in the 1999 World Cup at the age of 20. It was against Pakistan and the batting all-rounder failed to live up to the reputation he made in Jamaica by topping the average charts.

Powell made amends for his debut debacle by making a swashbuckling career-high 124 in the final, against India in Singapore. He made a reputation of being a pinch hitter. More often than not, he let his reputation get the better off him. His contemptuous approach to batting got him a mixed bag of returns in his ODI career. Powell made his Test debut against New Zealand but put up a poor show and was subsequently dropped from the side. The hard hitting batsman fared better in the ODI format. His average of 24.82 may not be impressive but his strike rate of 96.66 sent a shiver down the spine of who ever had to bowl to him. Successive low scores and turbulent governance of team by WICB, eventually led to Powell getting axed from the side.
