Carlos Alcaraz has reached his first Australian Open final despite having six Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard defeated Alexander Zverev in an epic five-set thriller, which lasted 5 hours and 27 minutes. The No. 1 star, who looked untouchable throughout the clash, outlasted his German opponent with a score of 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-7(4), 7-5.
Alcaraz stuns Zverev in a five-set thriller to reach maiden AUS Open final
Alcaraz won the first two sets while Zverev went on to win the third and fourth. However, the Spanish player made a comeback in the fifth to dominate and win the game.
The 22-year-old will take on either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner. It is to be noted that Alcaraz had never reached past the quarterfinals in Melbourne Park. The six-time major champion has won each of the other Grand Slams twice.
Alcaraz won his first major in 2022 at the US Open, which was followed by Wimbledon in 2023. He went on to win two majors in 2024, namely, a Roland Garros title and a major on grass. He also won two majors in 2025: the French Open and the US Open.
Alcaraz, who is aiming to win his maiden title in Australia, will attempt to deny Sinner a three-peat this season if the Italian defeats the Serbian.
