Serena, however, had stated her departures from the sport as "evolving away" rather than a retirement. Back in Dece, eber, the former World No. 1 had rubbished the speculations of her return, despite re-entering the sport's drug testing pool. However, the 23-time major champion was not so dismissive about it in a recent interview, as she kept it hanging.

During her appearance in an interview on Wednesday, when asked about her possible return to tennis, Serena, on The Today Show, said:

“It’s neither a yes nor a no. I don’t know, I’m just going to see what happens.”

The interviewer, Savannah Guthrie, remarked, “that’s a maybe to me” to Serena, to which the career Grand Slam winner remarked:

“It’s not a maybe”.

The four-time Olympic medalist’s name appeared on a document published by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) on October 6. In the updated list published in December, it still had Serena’s name in the list.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Serena makes a return while her sister Venus has still not retired, losing in the first round of the ongoing Australian Open 2026. There is a possibility that Serena plays doubles with her elder sister, and the fans might see the Williams sisters collaborate again before the latter finally retires.
