Emma Raducanu recently shared her thoughts on Singapore as she arrived in the country to compete in the Singapore Open 2025. The tournament marks the return of the WTA Tour to Singapore after a seven-year hiatus. Raducanu, one of tennis’s brightest stars, holds the distinction of being the first British woman to win a Grand Slam title since Virginia Wade. Her historic US Open victory in 2021 cemented her place in British tennis history. Now 22, Raducanu is ready to kick off her season after missing the Australian Open due to a back injury. As she prepares for her Singapore Open debut, she expressed her admiration for the Southeast Asian nation.

Emma Raducanu’s connection with Singapore

In an exclusive interview, Raducanu revealed her deep affinity for Singapore, describing it as one of her favorite places in the world.

She shared, "I’m extremely excited to be in Singapore. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, so it means a lot that there’s a tennis tournament here."

Emma Raducanu's bond with Singapore extends beyond tennis. She has visited the country before and admires its cosmopolitan nature, which resonates deeply with her multicultural heritage.

"I think the affinity with Singapore came about because, I think in 2022, I came back from Australia [after the Australian Open] and I’d always wanted to go to Singapore because I feel like it’s the perfect fusion between East and West," she explained.

The bilingual environment in Singapore also contributes to her sense of belonging.

"I feel it represents me a lot because [two of] the languages here -- Mandarin, as well as English -- I can use both. As soon as I landed in Singapore and went around, I felt at home because I just feel like it’s a place that reflects who I am," Raducanu added.

The timing of the Singapore Open aligns with the Lunar New Year, a festival Raducanu celebrates due to her Chinese roots.

She mentioned, “It’s nice to be in Asia over Chinese New Year. I have my mom here as well with me, which is a really nice addition.”

With her debut match in Singapore on the horizon, Emma Raducanu is ready to embrace the support of her fans and make a strong start to her season, fueled by her love for the city that feels like home.
