Ferrero clarified there was no bad blood, expressing his desire to meet Alcaraz, hug him, and normalize their relationship

Juan Carlos Ferrero, the former coach of world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, publicly explained his decision to unfollow the Spanish tennis star on Instagram during a recent interview on the show El Cafelito with Josep Pedrerol in early March 2026.

The Grand Slam stated that the move was not driven by resentment or spite but rather a personal need for emotional distance following their professional split after seven successful years together.

Ferrero emphasized that he required "a little time to separate" himself from Alcaraz, though he admitted the effort was largely ineffective since Alcaraz frequently appeared in his feed anyway through tennis accounts and tournament updates.

In a recent interview on the show El Cafelito with Josep Pedrerol, Ferrero addressed it directly. He said he did it to create some emotional distance and "separate" himself after the end of their partnership, not out of resentment or spite. He noted that Alcaraz appeared constantly in his feed anyway via tennis accounts, tournaments, etc., so it didn't fully achieve the goal.

“I don’t follow him because I need a little time, to separate myself from him. Besides, if I look at Instagram, he pops up everywhere.”

This followed their professional split after seven years working together as coach and player, which occurred in late 2025. Fans noticed the unfollow around early February 2026, shortly after Alcaraz's Australian Open win.

Ferrero clarified there was no bad blood, expressing his desire to meet Alcaraz, hug him, and normalize their relationship. He noted that a pending conversation could help achieve this and even left the door open for a potential future collaboration, suggesting that "second parts" can sometimes work well.
