Iga Swiatek expressed excitement for the upcoming Netflix docuseries Rafa on Rafael Nadal during a Roland Garros press conference on Tuesday. The top-seeded tennis star joked that she may need to time her viewing to avoid emotional tears before matches.
Iga Swiatek goes honest on Rafael Nadal's documentary: 'I am not sure…’
The four-part series, which premieres on May 29, provides behind-the-scenes access to the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s storied career and personal life. The Pole said:
‘I’m gonna watch it straight away.. unless I play the next day, because I will cry… I need to plan it"
Swiatek added:
“I’m not sure if you’re aware, but there’s a new Rafa documentary coming out this week on Netflix. Are you gonna be watching?”
Swiatek, who is chasing a fifth French Open title at the venue where Nadal won a record 14 times, revealed that her coach, Francisco Roig, a longtime former coach of Nadal, had mistakenly told the team the Madrid premiere was imminent.
The group prepared outfits for the occasion only to learn the dates were off by a full month, drawing laughs at the press event. The Polish star said she is looking forward to the documentary but remains mindful of its emotional impact as she competes in the second week of the tournament.
The series arrives as Nadal continues to be celebrated as one of the greatest players in tennis history, particularly at Roland Garros. Swiatek’s comments underscore the lasting influence of the Spanish legend on current stars, blending personal fandom with the high-stakes demands of Grand Slam competition.
