Joao Fonseca has pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 French Open. The Brazilian kid has defeated Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller with a score of 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5, in a nearly five-hour match.

Djokovic knocked out of French Open in five-set thriller

The Serbian was bidding for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam. However, following the upset that has shocked the tennis world, the fans will see a new major winner this week since none of the players in the tournament currently hold any Grand Slam record.  Additionally, this is the first time in the Open Era that a former Grand Slam champion has not reached the R16 at a Grand Slam event in men's singles.

Jannik Sinner’s loss was another shock of the event when the Italian was defeated by Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Fonseca has now become the youngest player ever to defeat the three-time champion at Paris. Meanwhile, it was also the teenager's mom's birthday, which made the victory even more special.
