Roger Federer's twin sons Leo and Lenny were seen at the Shanghai Master 2025, catching up on some tennis without their father. The boys were captivated by the engaging display of shotmaking between Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien during their fourth-round clash on Wednesday, October 8.
The 11-year-olds certainly know a thing or two about the sport, having grown up seeing their legendary father putting on a clinic whenever he took to the court. They were seen giving reactions to the ever-changing dynamic of the showdown between Medvedev and Tien.
As they were in the stadium without their dad, they certainly did not make the trip to Shanghai without him. Federer is also in town, and is set to headline a celebrity doubles match at the tournament on Friday, October 10. Despite retiring from the game three years ago, the Swiss legend has made the trip to Shanghai every year since then.
Federer and the Shanghai Masters share a common sponsor, Rolex. He won the tournament twice during his playing time, securing his first title in 2014 and then another one during the season of 2017. He remains a massive draw even after hanging up his boots, and he is always happy to promote the game in any capacity. His upcoming doubles event features some of the most well-known names in China.
Medvedev erupts at Shanghai Masters, drags Rafael Nadal into fiery outburst
Daniil Medvedev took on Learner Tien in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, their third meeting this year. In the last two matches, the American emerged as the winner.
Daniil Medvedev got a decent start, taking the opening set in a tiebreaker and then taking a 3-0 early lead in the second. However, ghosts of his previous defeats returned, as the former World No.1 ended up losing the break advantage and forced the set to end in a tiebreaker again.
This time, Tien capitalised, breaking away with a mini break. It was here that Medvedev crumbled, resulting in his fury at Umpire Lahyani, who thought he was taking too long to return.
Following the violation, Medvedev snapped back at Lahyani, recollecting all the times he faced Nadal. The Russian player was of the opinion that Nadal had always made the opponent wait, but got no code violation like the one he got in Shanghai. He threw the accusation at the chair umpire's face, calling him 'crazy' for the decision to give him the violation.
