Alejandro Davidovich Fokina had an interesting end to his Round of 32 game at the 2025 Paris Masters against Arthur Cazaux, ending in the Spanish being booed off the court by French fans.
Davidovich Fokina defeated Cazaux, the local lad, in the straight sets on Wednesday, winning 7-6 (5), 6-4. The French crowd were firmly supporting Cazaux, as expected, which seems to have rubbed his opponent the wrong war.
After the victory Fokina expressed his frustration against the French fans with a novel celebration - imitating NBA star Steph Curry's legendary 'Nighty Night' celebration. This riled up the crowd even further, as they responded to the celebration with a loud round of boos against the Spanish player.
At his press conference following the defeat, Cazaux expressed his thoughts on the celebration, saying that Davidovich Fokina will have even fewer fans supporting him in the Round of 16 clash.
"He made his little celebration at the end. Everybody reacts their own way. It's never easy to have the public against you. That's the way he reacted."
"I don't know whether I would have reacted in the same way, but all I can do is shut up, because he played his match. He was better than I was. All I can say is bravo. It won't be my fault if there is not very many French people behind him in the next rounds," Cazaux said.
Fokina will aim to prolong his run at the Paris Masters in the upcoming days, hoping to improve on his poor stats at the Masters 1000 tournament. In four previous appearances, he has never gone past the third round before in Pais.
