Mirra Andreeva has raised concerns following her mid-game breakdown and emotional scenes as she was defeated in the first round of the Wuhan Open. The 18-year-old rising star’s season has been full of defeats recently, however, she also had some impressive results at Wimbledon and French Open that stunned everyone this season. Mirra Andreeva breaks down mid-game during her Wuhan Open opener loss
Despite all the wonders at the majors, the WTA player marked a disappointing outing at the WTA 1000 tournament. The Russian star, after receiving a first-round bye, faced Laura Siegemend in the second round. However, the fifth-seeded player’s campaign ended in the opener, and she lost her cool at the cameraman. Her frustration was clearly caught on camera, which has been making the rounds on the internet.
The 2024 Roland Garros semifinalist was captured saying:
"F*king sick of this f*king tennis"
Following the loss, the former world No. 1 junior was seen covering her face in disappointment and visibly distraught on the court.
At one point, the sensational player was also caught saying she doesn't want to be filmed.
While Andreeva is just 18 years old, she has gained a considerable amount of attention following her breathtaking performances. However, her emotional breakdown in Wuhan has raised concerns about the young prodigy's mental health. It has also underscored the emotional challenges faced by emerging pros on the circuit.
Andreeva was also knocked out of the China Open by Sonay Kartal after her brief run at the Beijing event. Ahead of that, she also didn't advance much at the US Open in the third round where she was outlasted by Taylor Townsend in straight sets.
Andreeva will be playing next in Ningbo next week where she will try to defend her last year’s points to make a final qualifying push for the WTA Finals next month. It is to be seen how the World No. 5 performs in the upcoming games amid all the pressure on the young tennis star.
