Defending champion Mirra Andreeva suffered a dramatic third-round exit from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells on Monday, falling to unseeded Czech player Katerina Siniakova 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 in a tense, emotion-charged match lasting nearly three hours.

The 18-year-old Russian, who won her first WTA 1000 title here in 2025, smashed her racket multiple times, including after dropping the second-set tiebreaker, and received a code violation for racket abuse.

As she left the court following a frosty handshake, Andreeva appeared to direct an expletive-laden outburst toward the crowd, mouthing what spectators and video footage captured as "f*** you all" amid some boos.

The match featured intense rallies and 42 breaks of serve overall, with Siniakova staging a strong comeback after losing the opening set. Andreeva had controlled much of the early play but faltered in key moments, including the tiebreaker and decisive third set. Her frustration boiled over visibly, including arguments with the chair umpire over pace-of-play warnings prompted by Siniaková's complaints.

The defeat marks a significant points drop for Andreeva, who had enjoyed a strong run of form in recent seasons but now faces ranking pressure after failing to defend key titles. In the aftermath, Andreeva expressed regret over her on-court behavior, stating she was "not really proud" of the outburst and attributing it to intense anger and disappointment rather than direct hostility toward fans.

The incident drew widespread attention on social media and in tennis circles, highlighting the high emotional stakes for the young prodigy in high-profile events. Siniakova, better known for her doubles success, advanced to the Round of 16 for the first time at Indian Wells with the upset victory.
