British tennis player Jack Draper was left visibly emotional during his first-round exit at the National Bank Open in Montreal. In the viral video, the player was seen wiping away tears at a changeover as his long-running health battles once again took centre stage.
The 24-year-old lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to France’s Terence Atmane in a match that briefly showcased flashes of the form that once took him to a career-high world ranking of No. 4. After dropping the opening set, Draper dominated the second with powerful left-handed play. However, his level dropped sharply in the decider as discomfort appeared to limit his serve and groundstrokes. Trailing 4-1, he sat down and struggled to contain his emotions.

Draper’s difficulties stem from a chronic bone bruise in his left (playing) arm that has plagued him since the summer of 2025, compounded by knee tendinitis earlier this year. The issues forced him to miss multiple Grand Slams, including a late withdrawal from Wimbledon, and have restricted him to a handful of competitive matches over the past 12 months. His ranking has tumbled sharply as a result.
Draper was forced to pull out of Wimbledon this year as he was suffering from bone bruising. He also pulled out of the Canadian Open following the same issue before he finally returned at the Canadian Open. However, it did not go well as he went down 4-1 in the third set. The player was seen struggling, as it seemed it was too much for him on his shoulder.
