Gael Monfils recently played his last match at the French Open 2026 and has announced that 2026 will be his last season. Meanwhile, rumors have it that he will be coaching his wife, Elina Svitolina, after hanging up his racket.
Will Monfils coach wife Svitolina post retirement?
Svitolina has clarified that her husband, Monfils, will not step into the role of her coach once the Frenchman retires from professional tennis. In comments made at Roland Garros, the Ukrainian star explained that their personal relationship is sufficient and that Monfils already contributes as an advisor and team member off the court.
Svitolina, responding to a fan question during a promotional "Call Your Favorite Player" segment at the French Open, said she does not envision Monfils taking on formal coaching duties. "I'll leave it just as... he's my husband and I think it's enough at this stage," she stated with a smile. "But he's always helping me off court. He's already part of my team. He'll always be there as an advisor."
The couple, who married in 2022 and welcomed a daughter in 2022, frequently support each other at tournaments. Svitolina continues her competitive career on the WTA circuit. The comments provide insight into how the high-profile tennis pairing intends to balance family life with professional demands moving forward.
