The 22-year-old world No. 2 said that while growing up publicly means every error is amplified, it also allows fans to see her humanity and learn alongside her. Gauff responded to a question about the best and worst parts of her public journey. She said:

“The best thing I think… sometimes you get some perks and stuff, like people recognize you. The worst thing is you make mistakes when you grow up. So all your mistakes are kinda shown.”

Gauff added:

"I also think it’s not a bad thing because maybe some other people can see themselves in me & realize that we’re not all perfect and we all gotta learn.”

Gauff’s comments come as she competes at Roland Garros, where she has been a consistent performer since bursting onto the scene as a teenager. She has established herself as one of tennis's premier talents, has often spoken candidly about mental health and expectations.
