The WWE Universe is set for a blockbuster showdown as the 2025 edition of WWE Backlash rolls into St. Louis, Missouri this Saturday. Headlining the premium live event is a clash that’s being billed as the "last time ever" encounter between two of WWE’s most iconic superstars: John Cena and Randy Orton.

Cena Makes First Title Defense Against Orton in His Hometown

This match marks John Cena’s first defense of the Undisputed WWE Championship since winning the title, and he’ll be doing so in hostile territory — Orton’s hometown of St. Louis. The bout carries emotional weight and historical significance, as these two veterans prepare to add a final chapter to their long-standing rivalry.

Orton Reflects on Hometown Advantage – or Lack Thereof

Ahead of the high-stakes main event, Randy Orton spoke with Billboard about how he’s approaching the match and whether performing in his hometown truly offers any edge. Interestingly, Orton isn’t certain what kind of reaction he’ll get from the local crowd.

“It’s different, because I’m the good guy, and that’s never been the case before — so I don’t know what to expect. I wouldn’t say I’m nervous, but I’m very excited to see, because usually I know the type of reaction I’m going to get, or at least I know the type of reaction I want," Orton said.

He continued, acknowledging the unpredictability of fan response, especially when sharing the ring with someone like Cena.

“Usually, it’s close to that. But with this, I don’t kno

“Usually, it’s close to that. But with this, I don’t know. They might love John. They might s\\t on me and be booing me."

Orton also explained why he doesn’t fully embrace the typical "hometown hero" identity:

“I know it’s my hometown and I’m from St. Louis and I grew up here — but as far as being the hometown guy, I’m not at all the Cardinals games, or wearing the Blues jersey, and doing all that sh\t. I’m a homebody. I’m not out. I have my kids and wife, and we stay to ourselves when I’m in town."

“It’s not that I don’t rep the city, but I’m not out there repping the city. So it’s not like everyone is going to love me necessarily. I’m very curious to see how Saturday goes.”
