Las Vegas Raiders continue their offseason hunt for a new head coach, and recent reports indicate the organization has narrowed its focus to two offensive-minded candidates.
While the search remains wide open, interviews with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak suggest the Raiders may be leaning toward prioritizing offensive expertise.
Offensive focus shapes the hunt
Raiders has conducted interviews with four defensive coaches but has either interviewed or plans to interview eight offensive-minded candidates, including Brady and Kubiak, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
This trend signals a potential preference for an offensive coach, especially as the team prepares for a likely rookie quarterback next season.
“Based on that, it seems that the Raiders might be leaning toward going with an offensive mind. Now, one of the four defensive coaches they’ve interviewed could be a candidate they like a lot,” Breer noted, emphasizing that while offense appears favored, defensive candidates are not entirely off the table.
If a defensive coach is ultimately chosen, Las Vegas Raiders would likely complement the hire with a strong offensive coordinator to support a developing quarterback.
The organization is clearly weighing a balanced approach as it evaluates the next leader for the franchise.
Profiles of the leading candidates
Klay Kubiak, currently serving under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan since 2021, brings experience in high-level offensive schemes but has yet to call plays himself.
His familiarity with complex offensive systems could prove valuable as the Raiders look to maximize the potential of a young quarterback.
Joe Brady, once considered one of the NFL’s brightest offensive minds, led a Bills offense that ranked in the top five in scoring this season.
Despite operating with a roster that isn’t overflowing with talent, Brady’s contributions helped quarterback Josh Allen excel, showcasing his ability to design effective offensive strategies.
While neither Brady nor Kubiak may have emerged as the clear front-runner, insiders suggest their interviews could be pivotal in determining Las Vegas Raiders’ final decision.
Both coaches bring experience, innovative thinking, and adaptability—qualities Las Vegas hopes will translate into on-field success.
