Philadelphia Eagles emphatically reminded the New York Giants who rules the NFC East on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, cruising to a 38-20 win and preventing the Giants from achieving their first season sweep of the series since 2007. With a season-high offensive performance, the Eagles showcased their depth and explosive playmaking ability, while star running back Saquon Barkley set the tone early before leaving with a minor injury.
Barkley sets the tone with explosive performance
Despite a slow start to the season, Barkley delivered a statement-making performance in Week 8. On the second play of the game, he broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run, marking his longest rush of the season. The play came after a heavy package formation with Fred Johnson lined up as an extra blocker and Landon Dickerson opening a massive hole, allowing Barkley to slice through the Giants’ defense.
By the first half, Barkley had already totaled 107 rushing yards and 123 total yards, scoring a rushing touchdown and adding another on a 9-yard reception from Jalen Hurts. He finished the game with 150 rushing yards and 174 total yards from scrimmage, but did not play in the fourth quarter after sustaining a groin injury.
“We had a good lead, so they sat me down a little bit,” Saquon Barkley said post-game, confirming he was doing fine.
Eagles’ offensive dominance
The Philadelphia Eagles amassed a season-high 427 total yards compared to 246 for the Giants, marking the first time in 2025 that they outgained their opponent. Their rushing attack was particularly dominant, totaling 276 yards, with Tank Bigsby contributing 104 yards on nine carries, recording his third career 100-yard game.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts was equally impressive, completing 15 of 20 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns, achieving a 141.5 passer rating. Hurts has now posted a 151.18 passer rating over his last two games, throwing for 505 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception, while also contributing 22 rushing yards on four carries.
The Eagles’ offense started fast, aided by a strong defensive effort that forced a three-and-out on the Giants’ first possession. Early drives featured big runs from Bigsby and screen passes to Saquon Barkley, though a fourth-and-3 false start by center Brett Toth stalled one drive and led to a 58-yard field goal attempt, which Jake Elliott narrowly missed hitting the upright.
Implications for the NFC East
With the victory, the Philadelphia Eagles improve to 6-2, heading into their Week 9 bye before facing the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Nov. 10. The win not only secures their dominance over the Giants for the season but also reinforces their position as Super Bowl contenders in 2025. Meanwhile, the Giants remain 2-5, struggling to find answers against elite NFC East competition.
