C.J. Mosley announces retirement from NFL three months after New York Jets release

Three months after being released by the New York Jets, the five time All Pro linebacker C.J. Mosley has finally announced his retirement from the National Football League.

Three months after being released by the New York Jets, the five time All Pro linebacker C.J. Mosley has finally announced his retirement from the National Football League. 

C.J. Mosley announces his retirement

The 33-year-old was drafted in the first round, No. 17 overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 NFL draft. He went on to have a very successful and impressive NFL career. Mosley played for the first five seasons for the Baltimore Ravens before signing a long-term contract with the New York Jets. During his stint with the Jets, he went on to play for an additional five campaigns but represented the franchise for six seasons. He had opted out of the Covid season.

His best season came in 2021 with the New York Jets. In that season, he notched up 168 total tackles, 103 solo tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. But, in the 2024 season, he only managed to play just four games as he was suffering from many different injuries. 

CBS Sports NFL analyst Matt Zenitz revealed some of the injuries that Mosley was suffering last season, some of the injuries were extremely dangerous. 

The Jets had released the 32-year in March after he was limited to four games last year due to multiple injuries, including a herniated disc in his neck. Zenitz said.

C.J. Mosley NFL career

C.J. Mosley finished his NFL career with 1,082 total tackles, 687 solo tackles, 12 sacks, ten forced fumbles and 12 interceptions to his name in the ten year's of his playing career. During the course of his illustrious career, he was a five time Second Team All Pro, a five time Pro Bowler and a member of the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team in 2014. 

According to the popular sports financial and contract company 'Spotrac', Mosley has earned a whooping $94,656,002 in earning with his highest cash total coming in 2019 when he took $19 million from the New York Jets.
