Derek Stingley has been in the NFL since 2022 after being drafted out of LSU as the No.3 pick by the Houston Texans. The star cornerback has crossed paths with various top wide receivers in the league, but he once named the New York Jets' Garrett Wilson as his most difficult opponent.
Derek Stingley picks his most difficult opponent
On Friday, the Jets officially shut down their injured star wide receiver for the leftover season. Soon after the announcement, a video of Texans CB Stingley's comments from November resurfaced on X.
On an edition of "NightCap," Chad Johnson questioned which player he felt he always needed to bring his top game against. The cornerback instantly named Wilson, who signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets in July.
“And I'm playing like a deep third or something, and the ball is thrown so high, and I'm like 15, 20 yards behind him. I'm thinking the ball is coming right to me. He jumps up so high, catches the ball, just runs, and I'm just looking at you like, ‘Yeah, that's good.’”
Garrett Wilson individuals impact
Despite the Jets' struggles over the past few years, Garrett Wilson has been one of the NFL's elite wide receivers, collecting over 1000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons.
