Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid makes his thoughts clear on Philadelphia Eagles Saquon Barkley ahead of the much anticipated Super Bowl 59 clash. The Chiefs are just one win away from becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls in the National Football League (NFL) history and etching their name in the history books. Whereas, the Eagles will look to avenge their loss from Super Bowl 57 and stop the Chiefs from writing history.
What did Andy Reid say about Saquon Barkley?
The main difference between the Eagles in the 2022 campaign and the 2024 season has been none other than Saquon Barkley. The former New York Giants star has had a terrific first season with the Eagles. The Chief's head coach Andy Reid during his media duties on Thursday, January 31, had nothing but praise for the running back.
[Saquon Barkley]'s a great player, potential future Hall of Famer. He was tremendous at New York, he had a great year this year with the Eagles. So he's helped them, especially in the rush game, but he can catch the ball ... He's been a great addition for him, he said.
The first season at the Eagles for Saquon Barkley
During the 2023 season, the Eagles had an exceptional rushing unit that was led by D'Andre Swift, who registered 1,049 rushing yards and had five touchdowns to his name. The front office of the Eagles was not content with what they had and felt a need for an upgrade. So, as soon as the Giants left the opportunity of handing Barkley a new contract, the Eagles chipped in and signed him on a three-year contract.
Since then everything has been history for the Eagles as the running back registered 2,005 yards and has 13 touchdowns, both being career-highs. He also became the ninth player in the league's history to record 2,000 yards which took him only 16 games to achieve that. Barkley also caught 33 passes on 43 targets for 278 yards with two touchdowns.
As Barkley was remarkable in the regular season, he took his game a notch up in only the second playoff campaign of his career. In just three games, he had 442 yards, five touchdowns and caught seven passes for 35 yards. The Eagle's biggest threat in offence has been Barkley throughout the season and no team was able to contain him during that period.
