The NFL announced its Players of the Month for September on Thursday, showcasing standout performances from several quarterbacks.
In the AFC (American Football Conference ), Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen took home the award for offensive player of the month, while Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy earned the title of defensive player of the month. Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell was recognized as the special teams player of the month.
Over in the NFC, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold was named offensive player of the month, with Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson receiving the defensive honors. Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey claimed the special teams award.
Additionally, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was recognized as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month, and Los Angeles Rams linebacker Jared Verse was honored as the defensive rookie of the month.
Winners and their performances
The 28-year-old Josh Allen has guided the Bills to a strong 3-1 start, throwing for 814 yards and seven touchdowns without any interceptions, despite the offseason departures of his top targets, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.
While the 33-year-old is making waves with his performance, leading the NFL in tackles for loss (seven) while also contributing six sacks and nine quarterback hits. Boswell, also 33, has excelled as a kicker, successfully converting 11 of 12 field-goal attempts, including five from over 50 yards.
Darnold too is making a strong case for Comeback Player of the Year this season. After a tough start to his career with the New York Jets and stints with the Carolina Panthers and as a backup for the San Francisco 49ers, he has flourished in Minnesota. He has thrown for 932 yards and an NFL-leading 11 touchdown passes, leading the Vikings to a perfect 4-0 record.
Hutchinson has emerged as a dominant force on the defensive side, leading the league with 6.5 sacks, along with 16 tackles, a forced fumble, and 14 quarterback hits. Aubrey has shown impressive range, making six of seven field goals from 50 yards or more, including a remarkable 65-yarder in Week 3, which ranks as the second-longest field goal in NFL history.
For the rookies, Daniels, 23, has brought a renewed sense of hope to Commanders fans. With the team sitting at 3-1, he has thrown for 897 yards, three touchdowns, and just one interception, completing an impressive 82.1 percent of his passes—best in the league. His rushing game has also been stellar, adding 218 yards and four touchdowns.
Finally, Verse, also 23, has made a significant impact in his rookie year. As the Rams' first-round draft pick since Jared Goff in 2016, he has recorded 19 tackles (five for loss), one sack, four quarterback hits, and a forced fumble, showcasing his potential on the field.
