The Kansas City Chiefs will likely make a few tweaks to their squad ahead of the start of the new season. The Chiefs were denied their third straight Super Bowl win by the Philadelphia Eagles in February. The Eagles not only dethroned the Chiefs but ousted them with a humiliating win of 40-22. The loss at the Super Bowl XIX left many concerns for Andy Reid and management. One about the distinguished Quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes Needs Much-Needed Support
Patrick Mahomes was sacked 36 times last season, a concerning number that could hinder the team's success unless they strengthen their offensive line. Fortunately, several talented tackle prospects might be available when the Chiefs pick 31st overall in the draft, providing an opportunity to bolster their line and support Mahomes.
In Pro Football Focus NFL analyst Jordan Plocher’s latest mock draft projection, the Chiefs emerge from Round 1 with Ohio State tackle Josh Simmons.
“After the Chiefs’ lacklustre offensive showing in Super Bowl 59,” Plocher writes for PFF. “It became apparent that upgrading their offensive line should be their top priority. Simmons has the ideal size for an NFL tackle at 6-foot-5 and 317 pounds with 33-inch arms. He had an injury-shortened season in 2024 but earned an 82.0 PFF pass-blocking grade before getting hurt.”
Tackle prospect Simmons, despite a season-ending knee injury, showed top-prospect potential, allowing just five sacks and earning an elite 82 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus over two seasons at Ohio State.
“When he’s healthy, he looked very good,” an NFL offensive line coach told me recently, of Simmons. “He’s a natural pass protector. It’s going to be interesting to see where he winds up.”
