Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady expressed his heartfelt excitement after NFL team owners approved his investment in the Las Vegas Raiders. The former quarterback, who retired for the second time in February 2023 after a 23-season career, will hold a 5% stake in the franchise.

"Throughout my NFL career, I've learned that at its core, football is a game of teamwork, resilience and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Raiders franchise and the city of Las Vegas embody these same values, and I'm honoured to become part of that story,"  Brady said in a statement.

Brady's keen interest

Last year, Brady acquired a minority interest in Birmingham City, an English football club, and he is also involved with the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces. To finalize his purchase of the Raiders, he required 24 votes, but NFL owners unanimously approved the deal with a 32-0 vote at a meeting in Atlanta.

"I'm excited to contribute to the organisation in any way I can, honouring the Raiders' rich tradition while finding every possible opportunity to improve our offering to fans. And most importantly, WIN football games," the NFL veteran added.

In addition to his ownership role, Brady is working as a broadcaster for Fox’s NFL coverage. However, restrictions are in place regarding his access while the ownership deal is completed; he is not allowed to attend production meetings, either in person or online, and cannot access players, coaches, or team facilities. Brady can commentate on Raiders games but must adhere to NFL rules that prevent criticism of other teams or officials.

"It's great that Tom Brady wants to invest in the NFL. He cares deeply about this game, he believes in its future, and I think that's just a signal about it," said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Brady's 5% stake in the Raiders was approved during the league’s annual fall meeting, marking him as the third former NFL player to become an owner, alongside George Halas Sr. and Jerry Richardson. The Raiders, who last won a Super Bowl in 1983, have not claimed a playoff victory since losing the championship game to Tampa Bay on January 26, 2003.
