Sanders was Cleveland's fifth round pick in the NFL draft. Stefanski served as the Browns' coach for six seasons before ownership fired him after a disappointing season (5-12).

"I think it's just overall the mentality like, things gonna happen," Sanders said. "That's just how the league is. Moving forward, just focus on what we can improve individually for the next head coach."

Stefanski won two Coach of the Year awards during his time with the franchise. Another big moment came in 2020 when he led Cleveland to its first postseason win since 1994. Although the Browns managed just eight wins over the last few seasons, finishing with a 45-56 record under his watch.

Shedeuer Sanders reflects on his future

Shedeur Sanders started seven games after taking charge  over midseason. He completed 120 of 212 passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The rookie went 3-4 with a 68.1 passer rating.

Browns' general manager Andrew Berry will take a decision on Sanders' future alongside whoever replaces Kevin Stefanski. The rookie refused to speculate on whether his audition was sufficient.

"I think I did what I was able to do," Sanders said. "I definitely grew from a lot of things. I got experience now. I'm always the same confidence-wise, I'm there. But that's not in my hands. That's not my decision. I can't speak on what other people feel."

Cleveland stands the sixth pick in the 2026 NFL draft. The Browns also have Dillon Gabriel and Deshaun Watson under contract. Sanders penned a four-year, $4.6 million deal, making him a great option while the organisation resets under new leadership.
