Louisville loses a key piece of its 2027 recruiting class after four-star QB Jack Sorgi reopens his recruitment.

Rising interest from other programs could intensify the battle for the talented quarterback prospect.

Louisville Cardinals football program has suffered a significant recruiting setback after highly regarded quarterback prospect Jack Sorgi announced that he is backing out of his commitment and reopening his recruitment.

Sorgi had originally pledged to Louisville in June 2025, becoming the first verbal commitment for the Cardinals’ 2027 recruiting class. At the time, the Indiana quarterback was still flying under the national radar, but his breakout junior season quickly elevated his profile and made him one of the most intriguing prospects in the class.

Breakout season boosts Sorgi’s national ranking

The signal-caller from Tri-West High School football delivered an impressive campaign during his junior year, producing standout numbers that caught the attention of recruiting analysts and major college programs.

Sorgi threw for 2,911 yards and 31 touchdowns while completing more than 61 percent of his passes. The strong performances propelled him into four-star territory in recruiting rankings.

He is now ranked as high as No. 169 overall nationally, the No. 15 quarterback prospect in the country, and the No. 3 player in the state of Indiana. His rapid rise had made him a centerpiece of Louisville Cardinals’ 2027 recruiting class before the latest development changed the outlook.

Sorgi announces decision to reopen recruitment

News of the decommitment was first reported by Rivals recruiting analyst Hayes Fawcett before Sorgi confirmed the decision publicly through a statement on social media.

“After a lot of thought and conversations with my family, I have made the decision to decommit from the University of Louisville football program and reopen my recruitment,” Sorgi wrote. “I have nothing but respect for the players and coaches at Louisville, and I wish Louisville football nothing but the best going forward.”

The quarterback also expressed excitement about exploring new opportunities as his recruitment process continues.

Wisconsin emerges as potential contender

With Sorgi’s recruitment now reopened, several programs are expected to pursue the rising quarterback prospect. Among the early programs showing interest is Wisconsin Badgers football, which is reportedly positioning itself as a serious contender for his commitment.

Given Sorgi’s growing reputation and upward trajectory in national rankings, the competition for his signature is unlikely to remain quiet for long.
