New York Jets have had an underwhelming season.

According to reports, the New York Jets have reached an agreement on Wednesday with Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to take on the duties as the head coach. Glenn, who led the Lions' defense for the previous four years, beat out 15 other applicants for the position as the Jets conducted a thorough search for the vacant position.

After considerable period, the Jets have finally made a decision regarding the new head coach. After carefully looking at different resumes, they eventually went ahead with one of their former players — a first-round draft pick in 1994 who now has the opportunity to try to turn around the franchise's woes 31 years later as coach.

The 52-year-old, who transformed Detroit's defense into one of the finest in the league, was one of the most sought-after candidates during the NFL's previous two hiring rounds. Last year, he interviewed with Washington, Atlanta, Tennessee, and the Los Angeles Chargers; this year, he met with the Jets, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, and Chicago.

Glenn spoke with the Jets via video call on January 9 and was interviewed in person on Tuesday.

The Jets also interviewed Brian Flores, Jeff Hafley, Vance Joseph, Mike Locksley, Josh McCown, Matt Nagy, Ron Rivera, Darren Rizzi, Rex Ryan, Bobby Slowik, Arthur Smith, Steve Spagnuolo, Jeff Ulbrich, Mike Vrabel, and Joe Whitt Jr. for the position.

However, only Glenn received the invitation for the second interview. And New York did not have to think twice about speaking with anyone else again. The Jets are also conducting a protracted search for a general manager, and Washington assistant general manager Lance Newmark was also present at the team's facilities Tuesday.

Newmark, one of 15 candidates who interviewed for the GM position, was the first to get a second meeting with the Jets, like Glenn, but has yet to reach an agreement. Glenn and the next GM will be charged with attempting to revitalize a franchise that has the NFL's longest active playoff drought at 14 seasons. Glenn spent eight seasons with New York and was recognized as one of the cornerbacks on the franchise's All-Time Four Decade list.
