Elavenil Valarivan claims silver at Asian Games 2026 in women’s 10m air rifle individual event

It's another silver for India at the Asian Games 2026. Elavenil Valarivan delivered a strong start to India’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indian shooter secured two silver medals in the women’s 10m air rifle events on Sunday. 

The 27-year-old first contributed to India’s team silver alongside teammates Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod. Later in the day, she added an individual silver, finishing with a score of 252.4 points in the final.

Valarivan came within touching distance of gold but was edged out by Japan’s Hinata Taichi, who set a new Asian Games record of 253.0. South Korea’s Ban Hyojin took bronze. The individual medal marks Valarivan’s first personal podium finish at the Asian Games. The results give India an encouraging opening to the shooting competition in Aichi-Nagoya.

On the other hand, the Indian women's cricket team has reached the gold medal match, beating Bangladesh in the semifinals, and will face Sri Lanka. It will be a rematch of the Asia Cup final, where India won their record-extending eighth title.
