N.S. Johal, CEO of TOPS, said resources have been provided with the aim of matching or surpassing India’s previous best haul of 106 medals from the Hangzhou Asian Games. He highlighted strong momentum across disciplines and the importance of debutants for long-term success.
According to official figures, ₹702.86 crore was allocated under the Annual Competition and Training Calendar, with an additional ₹97.84 crore drawn from the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). This takes the combined outlay beyond ₹800 crore.
Further, key spending includes ₹251.4 crore on international competition exposure and ₹118.3 crore on domestic training. Funds have also supported equipment, coaching, and other training needs.
Nine coordination meetings have already been held this year under the Target Asian Games Group to address administrative issues. Support staff will include physios, mental health experts, doctors and sports science specialists, with a focus on balanced representation. As per Johal, every team has a women’s support staff, and one third of the authorised support staff is from sports sciences.
