Meanwhile, another inspection is scheduled for 10:45 after the first one held at 9:45 AM IST (1:15 PM local time). The match, originally set to start at 9:30 AM IST, cannot begin until the umpires deem the conditions playable.
The fixture marks the first bilateral T20I between India and an associate nation and Japan’s first against a full ICC member. It forms part of celebrations marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and serves as a warm-up for India’s Asian Games campaign.

Heavy rainfall from Typhoon Dujuan in the preceding days had already disrupted preparations and forced the abandonment of Japan’s earlier match against Hong Kong at the same venue. Although skies were clear and the sun was shining on Tuesday morning, the saturated outfield has held up proceedings.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer’s side, featuring several key players, remains the clear favourite against the hosts, ranked 41st in T20Is. While fans await the match, the Japanese cricket team was seen putting on a mat as they continued doing some warm-ups and practice on the pitch.
