The New York Mets suffered a big blow as their second baseman Jeff McNeil is out for the rest of the season with an injury. He suffered the injury in the game where the Mets emerged victorious against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. The team suffered a setback as Jeff has been out with a broken right wrist. The Mets have named Jeff on the 10-day list of injured players.

Replacement

The team shared the announcement of his replacement on their X (formerly Twitter) platform. The Outfielder D.J. Stewart has been recalled from the Syracuse Mets who is a triple-A affiliate. He will take McNeil's place for the Jets.  It is a very crucial time in the tournament as New York is chasing a playoff spot and the race to finish in the Top 3 is heating up in The NL Wild Card standings. In the second half of the season, McNeil has been in fine touch which will be a major problem for Mets to address. Jeff's attacking capability is too hard to replicate and Stewart has big shoes to fill in.

Mets vs Reds

The New York Mets registered an emphatic win against the Reds by 6-4 beating them in a thrilling encounter. but the Cincinnati Reds took a befitting revenge defeating the Jets by 3-1 with Santiago Espinal's tie-breaking two-run double in the ninth inning. The Reds were able to end Mets' nine-game winning streak on Sunday. Mets has a nine-game winning streak being the team's longest since a nine-game run in April 2018.

"I think for us right now, we’re not worrying about who’s winning, who’s losing. Right now we just need to win series. Even when we were not even in the talk of being in the playoffs, we were just trying to win games. And if we continue to do that, if we continue to focus on our team, not worry about what the other teams are doing, I think we’re going to do good.” Mets pitcher Luis Severino said.

The team was eager to call Luisangel Acuna but Carlos Mendoza told how the team wants the youngster to play in the minors and develop himself.

“Development is important for him. Right now there’s not much playing time,” said Mendoza.
