What happened to Anthony Rizzo?

After further examination, it was revealed that Rizzo suffered fractures in the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand. It is not yet confirmed for how long Anthony Rizzo will be out of action.

Players getting injured after being hit by pitchers is a growing issue in Major League Baseball (MLB). Back in July this year, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts was struck on his left hand after getting hit by a pitch. He had to miss the action for six to eight weeks.

The second baseman for the Atlanta Braves, Whit Merrifield spoke of how serious this issue is getting day by day. Even Merrifield had to leave the ground against the Colorado Rockies after he was hit in the head by reliever Jeff Chriswell.

Yankees skipper Aaron Boone on Anthony Rizzo's injury

After Anthony Rizzo sustained his injury, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke to YESNetwork and shed light on his injury.

"He (Anthony Rizzo) has a fracture in his fingers. We’ll see what we have as the week moves forward. It doesn’t totally rule him out. It’s something that is a pain tolerance thing, so we’ll see as the days unfold here what we have," Boone said.

"He's come back [from his previous injury] and done a really good job for us. Obviously helped us anchor our defence, and I feel like he's been giving us really good at-bats too at the bottom of the order," Boone concluded.

This is not the first time Rizzo will be out of action this season. Earlier this year, he missed around two and a half months after fracturing his arm against the Boston Red Sox.
