After weeks of speculations the Boston Red Sox finally pulled the trigger on the deal to bring in starting pitcher Garrett Crochet in January. That was followed by months of assertions that Boston was in the hunt for the All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman. With both players now on board, the Boston front office has a new target on the radar.

Boston Red Sox Have Another Target on Their Radar
Boston has done a terrific job improving its roster this winter. In addition to acquiring the services of Crochet and Bregman, the Club signed starting pitcher Walker Buehler and reliever Aroldis Chapman. As the franchise is hell-bent on improving its prospects ahead of the season, they seemingly have the wherewithal to make yet another signing.
As per Sean McAdams of MassLive.com, the Red Sox have made contact with the San Diego Padres on a potential Dylan Cease trade. Boston's interest in the pitcher has come after bringing in Crochet from the Chicago White Sox.
Even after the Crochet deal, the Red Sox still have the resources present to entice San Diego. However, considering that Cease is a one-season rental, the Padres have a fairly high asking price. Moreover, the club's recent stance on trading him has made it clear that it would be difficult for the Red Sox to strike a deal for him.

Red Sox May or May Not Seriously Consider Bringing Dylan Cease In
McAdams further reveals that the Red Sox are seemingly testing the waters on Cease and there aren't active negotiations going on. Thus, it could be intriguing to witness whether the Red Sox make a move for Cease or leave it considering the best of their interests.
If they indeed make a move for the Cease and bring him on board then it will be a reunion between him and Crochet. Both were teammates in Chicago. Also, Cease inclusion would provide further solidarity to the front line of the Red Sox, making them contenders for the American League this season.
