Former baseball catchers A. J. Pierzynski and Erik Kratz, now well-known MLB analysts, recently shared their startling take on a Yankees superstar's exit from the team after just one season. Their discussion from the popular baseball podcast, "Foul Territory," is going viral on the internet and has captured the attention of the MLB fans.
In their discussion, Pierzynski and Kratz emphasized that even though he departed from the Yankees, the team should not be worried about his exit, as it is a "win-win" situation for the New York-based club.
Should Yankees be worried
On Wednesday, Foul Territory shared a video on their X handle (formerly Twitter) and asked fans if the Yankees were better off without Juan Soto, who recently became a free agent following the expiry of his one-year contract with the team and signed a 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets. Notably, it was the biggest contract signed in Major League Baseball's history. However, replying to the aforementioned question, Pierzynski stated that although the Yankees missed out on signing Juan Soto, it is a blessing in disguise for them with Max Fried, Devin Williams, and Cody Bellinger on their side.
"They missed out on Juan Soto. Now are they better? I think they are a better team now with (Max) Fried, Devin Williams and Cody Bellinger than they were with just Juan Soto. Them missing out, as we said, kind of at the time, some people said it might be a blessing in disguise for the Yankees over the long haul," said Pierzynski.
"I know the Mets season tickets are through the roof. Whoop dee doo da they should be. The Yankees season tickets are going to be through the roof, too. When you look at their starting rotation. They now have a lockdown closer, and they have a center fielder, slash first baseman in a guy that people know," he added.
Furthermore, Pierzynski also predicted that the New York Yankees will be the winners of this offseason, while Kratz also agreed with his counterpart and added that the team has more versatility now, which they missed in the World Series.
On the other hand, Soto, who joined the Yankees in December 2023 for a one-year stint, appeared in 157 games, posting a .288/.419/.569 slash line with 109 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
