Luka Doncic is progressing well from a mild hamstring strain, with a return possibly on the horizon.

The Lakers remain cautious but encouraged as the All-Star break approaches.

Los Angeles Lakers may not have to wait much longer for Luka Doncic’s return. After a brief absence due to a mild hamstring strain, optimism is building around the All-Star guard’s recovery, with signs pointing toward a possible comeback sooner rather than later.

Encouraging signs from LA Lakers camp

Each Luka Doncic injury update has carried a consistent message — the setback is not expected to be long-term. On Tuesday night, head coach JJ Redick confirmed that the Slovenian star is being treated as day-to-day as he continues to progress through rehabilitation.

While Lakers are cautious about assigning a firm return date, internal belief appears strong. ESPN NBA insider Dave McMenamin shed further light on the situation.

"The Lakers have been encouraged that it's only a mild hamstring strain, but Luka's never dealt with a hamstring injury before in his 8-year NBA career," McMenamin said on Wednesday.

"This has been a bit of a different rehab for him. Thursday against his former team, the Mavericks, is not out of the question. He certainly has some motivation to get back on the court in time to play in the All-Star Game this weekend."

That motivation could play a crucial role, especially with All-Star festivities fast approaching.

What we know about the injury

Doncic last suited up on February 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers, exiting after just over 15 minutes. Since then, he has missed three consecutive games. During that stretch, LA Lakers went 1-2, securing a win over the Golden State Warriors while falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

The team has yet to confirm his official injury designation for the upcoming clash against Dallas. However, an upgrade to questionable status appears possible if his recovery continues on its current trajectory.

Lakers eyeing strong all-star break position

Before the injury, Luka Doncic was delivering MVP-caliber production, averaging 32.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game.

His presence has been central to LA Lakers’ standing as a top-six team in the Western Conference heading into the All-Star break.

If progress continues, fans may soon see their franchise cornerstone back on the floor — potentially as early as Thursday.
