Derrick Rose the youngest MVP in National Basketball Association announced his retirement after a long and celebrated career building a legacy of his own. He had a career of playing 16 seasons in the league. The 35-year-old announced his decision on Thursday morning via social media and full-page advertisements. He announced his retirement in six local newspapers in cities where he played.
"Thank You, My First Love. You gave me a gift, our time together, one that I will cherish for the rest of my days. You told me it's okay to say goodbye, reassuring me that you'll always be a part of me, no matter where life takes me. Forever yours, Derrick Rose," wrote Ross on his Instagram account.
The Chicago Bulls selected Derrick Rose with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft after his standout season at Memphis. He quickly established himself as a superstar, earning his first of three consecutive All-Star selections in 2010 and winning the MVP award in 2011 at just 22 years old, leading the Bulls to an impressive 62-20 record. After being named the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year, Rose had his best statistical season two years later, averaging 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game, which earned him the league's MVP title. However, that year ended in disappointment as the Bulls fell to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, marking the closest Rose came to securing an NBA championship.

Career Altering injury
He had a career-altering injury when he suffered a torn ACL during the first round of playoffs in 2012. The injury derailed his plans keeping him out of the all the following season. His game too got defensive and his explosive nature was compromised. Rose played for the Bulls for eight seasons, missing the entire 2012-13 season due to a knee injury. After his time in Chicago, he had stints with the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and most recently, the Memphis Grizzlies.
Throughout his career, Rose has averaged 17.4 points and 5.2 assists across 723 regular-season games. Rose was selected to three NBA All-Star games and made history as the league's youngest MVP in 2011. He played seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls, four with the New York Knicks, and had two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as single-season stints with the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers. He concluded his career in Memphis, where he first gained prominence as a freshman with the Tigers before being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.
